Just a little update on where we are at in our restoration. We had toyed with the idea of replacing our engine but have decided to keep it for now and have since got it up and running, that was a huge…Continue

How did you get interested in newporters? Tell me a little about yourself.
Own hull #40 "The Red Witch" I fell in love with Newporters many years ago the moment I first saw one which I believe was Owlheart and it was in the Long Beach marina 30 years ago.

Newporter for sale

Just an FYI for anyone looking, a 1956 Newporter was just put up for sale on craigslist in San Francisco for $3,800 obo as expected it looks pretty rough but it has a rebuilt mast and 3 year old sails and a newer 50hp Perkins check it out I would be many $$ ahead to buy it to scrap it out for the sails, masts and engine, all items I'm going to need to replace. I just don't know… Continue

Direction on to re-power or not.

I am missing all the engine gauges, does anyone know what Tachometer will work for the original Ford Lehman? The engine is also needing a new heat exchanger and possibly a new starter. When I purchased the boat the engine was running well now I can't get it to start up, it doesn't seem to have enough power in the starter to get it going, it turns over but not very fast. My first thought was that I needed a better battery as the one that came with the boat was just a car battery. I have since…

Steering wheel bolt size?

We just bought a new wheel, the old one was in very poor shape. When we removed the old wheel we came to find out it was missing the nut, it was held in place with corrosion, it was so corroded in place that I had a heck of a time even removing the old wheel, I thought I was going to need a gear puller but after much persuading I managed to remove the old wheel. Anyway now that I have the new wheel on I really need to locate a nut to hold it on. It is a 3/4" shaft and I am no machinist but to… Continue

Welcome to the forum, Greg! Can't wait to see Red Witch come back to life. $2500 for a Newporter that's not sinking is a steal - I'd have gobbled her up in an instant, too!

Muf, our Keeper of the Roster, has updated it.  But he still needs information on boats out there that he doesn't have, like new owners, old owners, where any of the boats are.  We don't post the roster on the web site, it is only sent to owners.  Please send him anything you might have, or call him at:

Captain Clyde's Newporter  sites:

The Ning site has been given a reprieve.   I have  transferred my Ning site to the blogspot site and will leave it there. I am keeping my Ning site open as a home for my photos and drawings.

Many of my photos there do not relate to Newporters, but a search through my collection may prove useful for your studies.

My drawings are not accurate in many respects as a result of the PAINT program used to draw them, There is no accurate scale and at best they are only useful to indicate some specific detail.  Some are inaccurate because of my poor memory.  Use them to help you think, not as a detailed presentation of the subject matter.

If any of you want to start a web site I suggest you remember what has happened to both my Ning site and this site (which is a Ning site) and remember that my Blogspot site is free and Blogspot's owner (Google) has promised to keep it that way.

Clyde's email:

Put 'Newporter' on Subject Line.  Email is the best way to contact me.  I do not regularly look at this site or its messaging system.  Email will get to me post-haste.
