a beautiful boat should sail forever.

Anyone have the track pull loose from the boom?
I had this happen off morro bay when coming down to LA.
Pink has aluminum spars (so i guess its not at all an original rigging configuration). Anyway there is a lenght of track at the outboard end of our alum boom. With a block that is adjustable on the track that hold my loose foot main . Allows for some out haul adjustment ( not that i think the heavy girl needs much adjustment like that). Well the track was screwed to the boom . Maybe 20 small ss screws each side of the track, Cruising along downwind, kinda rolling sea boom protected with a gybe preventer. A puff came and the track separated from the boom with some sounds i didnt like at all. Screws pulling out it turned out. Nothing that a quick lashing couldnt bring under control and get me to LA basin. But really made me think about these tracks and how much load they have on them. And if i didnt have gybe procector the boom would have lifted as sail pulled and i doubt it would have seperayed. ( but now im glad it did. Opens my eyes to more problem preventative off shore thinking)
Im going to remove the track and instsll a heavy loop bolted thru boom that will hold my out haul block . (Simple/ heavy) As my ChrisCraft 35 center cockpit had.
Just looking for comments, ideas, like experienced. I dont want to lash things 1200 miles off shore when were are halfway to Honolulu.
Might spill a beverage or spoil a nap.
Aloha

THE ROSTER

Muf, our Keeper of the Roster, has updated it.  But he still needs information on boats out there that he doesn't have, like new owners, old owners, where any of the boats are.  We don't post the roster on the web site, it is only sent to owners.  Please send him anything you might have, or call him at:

Captain Clyde's Newporter  sites:

and

newporter.ning.com

The Ning site has been given a reprieve.   I have  transferred my Ning site to the blogspot site and will leave it there. I am keeping my Ning site open as a home for my photos and drawings.

Many of my photos there do not relate to Newporters, but a search through my collection may prove useful for your studies.

My drawings are not accurate in many respects as a result of the PAINT program used to draw them, There is no accurate scale and at best they are only useful to indicate some specific detail.  Some are inaccurate because of my poor memory.  Use them to help you think, not as a detailed presentation of the subject matter.

If any of you want to start a web site I suggest you remember what has happened to both my Ning site and this site (which is a Ning site) and remember that my Blogspot site is free and Blogspot's owner (Google) has promised to keep it that way.

Put 'Newporter' on Subject Line.  Email is the best way to contact me.  I do not regularly look at this site or its messaging system.  Email will get to me post-haste.
