Newporter 40 Together

a beautiful boat should sail forever.

Celebrate, we scored a slip for Pink Cloud in Hono !

new%20slip.jpg Last week we scored  slip F-37 in Ala Wai harbor, Honolulu.  Its a state run 660 slip marina (only game in town really).

So after a bit less than 3 years our wait is over,  we now have this beautiful 55' slip ( see pic)  for our Pink Cloud.  All we need is the boat here  (and pay the slip fees till i get Pink Cloud here)

I take her to Mexico next month for some galley modifications and... New improved cockpit. Then cross to Honolulu in fall.

Funny thing is...  our slip in Honolulu is $300 less a month than I have paid in Oxnard = Channel Islands Marina ( near Venura Ca ) $788 month.  How can that be?  Cali is way overpriced is my answer!

Adding to the talk about slip fees; That's one of the reasons being retired, old, and poor is the way to go.  My slip costs me nothing.  We live in a house that we bought and paid for 43 years ago and just three months ago gave it to our daughter.  I do all my sailing and boat reconstruction on the computer.  But the disadvantage to this is the lack of being on the water.  But when I need that bad enough (and I do need it) I just go down to the home port (5 miles away) of New Jersey's State Tall Ship and bum a ride or two.  I'm one of their "old timers" and historic artifacts.

Boys, just to give you some perspective - I pay $100 a month for my slip - but of course that is an awesome deal even for here. Once I get cruising there is not much question that I will have to spend most of my time in the anchorage.

(And for Cali being overpriced - I'm paying $1050/month at one of the cheaper marinas in Marina Del Rey... So yep.)

THE ROSTER

Muf, our Keeper of the Roster, has updated it.  But he still needs information on boats out there that he doesn't have, like new owners, old owners, where any of the boats are.  We don't post the roster on the web site, it is only sent to owners.  Please send him anything you might have, or call him at:

Captain Clyde's Newporter  sites:

and

newporter.ning.com

The Ning site has been given a reprieve.   I have  transferred my Ning site to the blogspot site and will leave it there. I am keeping my Ning site open as a home for my photos and drawings.

Many of my photos there do not relate to Newporters, but a search through my collection may prove useful for your studies.

My drawings are not accurate in many respects as a result of the PAINT program used to draw them, There is no accurate scale and at best they are only useful to indicate some specific detail.  Some are inaccurate because of my poor memory.  Use them to help you think, not as a detailed presentation of the subject matter.

If any of you want to start a web site I suggest you remember what has happened to both my Ning site and this site (which is a Ning site) and remember that my Blogspot site is free and Blogspot's owner (Google) has promised to keep it that way.
