Hi Bob,

I thought I replied earlier but I don't see the post so I will reconstruct.

Thanks for the Eagles, I will enjoy all that you post.

Secondly, I read through the listing of N40 owners and was surprised to see that hull#17 was unaccounted for. That is no longer the case because I am writing this as I sit in her saloon. I bought her a year ago and I am in the process of restoration.

I have read all of the postings and appreciate the comments, drawings and wealth of information. I hope to add something of worth myself in the future.

Fantastic - I get such a kick out of discoveries like that. " Against the Wind" is a great name. I will continue to post the Eagles every week. Don't just want to put them on at once. I am enjoying them too. Love to read about the open ocean voyages. Hey - how about posting a picture of your boat - before it is perfect. Just hit Quick Add, then Photo, then Browse (and then click on any photo in your pictures) and finally Add Photo. You can even comment on your own photo if you like!!!!!
Welcome Aboard Tony,

We have a roster of all the boats, and as you know your boat wasn't on it. Is Against the Wind the Original name? We started contacting Newport Boat owners that was on the original list thus this website was formed. We have had some computer glitches therefore first time able to respond to your post. Do you have any background information on your boat? Where was it built. On the West Coast or back east. We are located in Wilmington California and have the "Mistri" Can you please send us your direct email address, telephone numbers, home address, where your boat is kept so we might add it to the roster. Glad that Bob is sending you the Eagles.

Hi Gerald,

Sorry for the delayed response but there appeared to be some difficulty with the website. I hope this goes through correctly.

I do not know the original name of the boat. It is currently docked at 702 Bair Island Road, Redwood City in the Bair Island Marina. My direct line is 650-773-6547 and can be reached at tonyzavilenski@yahoo.com.

I have had the boat for a little more than two years and I am slowly restoring it. It was built on the west coast and has the deeper draft. It has the nicely finished mahoganey interior of the earlier boats and seems to be relatively sound but to date there remains no surface of the boat that I have not touched in my ongoing efforts to improve its condition. My one year projection has easily slipped well beyond my life expectancy.

When I was out of San Raphael I had it on Bay three times. Once we had all sails up in 25 knot winds. She ran wind on the beam and heeled over nearly to the gunnels. I was hooked. It must be something like being addicted to crack. I just want to do it again. After some more repairs to the engine, Perkins 4108, we should be ready to take it out again this summer.

Thanks for your interest.

Tony

THE ROSTER

Muf, our Keeper of the Roster, has updated it.  But he still needs information on boats out there that he doesn't have, like new owners, old owners, where any of the boats are.  We don't post the roster on the web site, it is only sent to owners.  Please send him anything you might have, or call him at:

Captain Clyde's Newporter  sites:

newporters.blogspot.com

and

newporter.ning.com

The Ning site has been given a reprieve.   I have  transferred my Ning site to the blogspot site and will leave it there. I am keeping my Ning site open as a home for my photos and drawings.

Many of my photos there do not relate to Newporters, but a search through my collection may prove useful for your studies.

My drawings are not accurate in many respects as a result of the PAINT program used to draw them, There is no accurate scale and at best they are only useful to indicate some specific detail.  Some are inaccurate because of my poor memory.  Use them to help you think, not as a detailed presentation of the subject matter.

If any of you want to start a web site I suggest you remember what has happened to both my Ning site and this site (which is a Ning site) and remember that my Blogspot site is free and Blogspot's owner (Google) has promised to keep it that way.

Clyde's email:

Put 'Newporter' on Subject Line.  Email is the best way to contact me.  I do not regularly look at this site or its messaging system.  Email will get to me post-haste.
