Newporter 40 Together

a beautiful boat should sail forever.

Aloha .

under%20the%20thatch%20hut.JPGQuestion to all that are now insured, (Newporter 40 that is).   We have a Lilability and Removal policy as required by California marinas from Boat US.  But it will not cover Mexico or my trip to Hawaii in July.

So does anyone have any ideas?  Id like to stay with liability only as no way I can afford a replacement type policy.  Just want a policy to be legal in Baja Mex/ and Hawaii Marinas and prudent coverage in case someone is injured while on Pink Cloud.

Next , I wondered if anyone heard if OWLHEART sold?  The listing is now gone from the broker that had her on his site.

June 1st I return to Pink Cloud now in Channel Islands marina (Ventura/Oxnard)  for a months prep before I head home  to Honolulu around July 6th.  We will leave with the first start group of the Transpac Race.. Long Beach To Diamondhead.  Not Racing, Just want to be in the gang of 70-80 yachts that will cross.  Safety in numbers I say.

Out

Thank BOB !

My insurance is good for off the coast of Cali 100 miles ( like a guy going down the coast like i did )   They US Boat offer a company for mexico insurance.

But when is comes to cross an ocean US Boat says I will not be covered, Nor do they Cover Hawaii.

I Had merik marine (sp)  before on My last boat when I sailed down from Victoria BC.  and they do offer true cruiser off shore, but at a bigger   $$   and will for sure need a new survey.

So, any ideas are welcome.   We are going to haul out in Channel Islands first of June.   Im going to renovate my cockpit as I floated some months ago,  New steering Ped I scored from a salvage benatueau with throttle and gear linkage ,  Im going to put our stear Ped up on the rear lazerette ( sent a pic of my mock up last summer)  with a simple cpt chair behind.  As my boat is Schooner I dont have a mast step in the cockpit, so its wide open, and there is no boom in my new rear stear locale.   Its Going make a nice wrap around sitting area cockpit , the capt sits above and oversees the mahem. Going  Make that upper lazzerrete "Trunk" open with  wing sides to get access to my stern stuff .   Pinkclould has hydrolic steering already and a nice warm dry  pilot house steer point,  so this steer spot will be only for nice days and waikiki sunsets.   We Have autohelm 6000 at both steer locations.  So to be honest,  I never touch the wheel when offshore.  I push  a button to tack or adjust course 2 degrees, or another button for 10 degrees.   Them go cook some brownies in the new oven.   A good solid autopilot is a MUST.   I prefer a helm based unit,  I dont love the windvanes self steer.. my experience only.

Also Im looking to add a wind gen ( mount above dingy davits) anyone done that or have ideas?   I want my batteries  full,  All the time!  No need start engine to charge,  ( and if , say bad fuel, no start nightmare, that is very real off shore).   That is my one worry for off shore,  with bat driven auto pilot and my refer/ and deep freeze.

Also adding two huge solar -  home depot solar units  0n my house roof.   But, big main sail blocks the sun sometimes on my roof, so want solar/ wind combo to be really self suficient... with freezer and refer.. and... Who needs the Marina and the 40 bucks a night... ugg.

  Aloha

Try Progressive - they insure boats within 75 miles of shoreline - and since you only have liability anyway I am not sure the ocean crossing makes any difference. They would probably cover the Hiwaii thing - not sure about mexico.

THE ROSTER

Muf, our Keeper of the Roster, has updated it.  But he still needs information on boats out there that he doesn't have, like new owners, old owners, where any of the boats are.  We don't post the roster on the web site, it is only sent to owners.  Please send him anything you might have, or call him at:

The Ning site has been given a reprieve.   I have  transferred my Ning site to the blogspot site and will leave it there. I am keeping my Ning site open as a home for my photos and drawings.

Many of my photos there do not relate to Newporters, but a search through my collection may prove useful for your studies.

My drawings are not accurate in many respects as a result of the PAINT program used to draw them, There is no accurate scale and at best they are only useful to indicate some specific detail.  Some are inaccurate because of my poor memory.  Use them to help you think, not as a detailed presentation of the subject matter.

If any of you want to start a web site I suggest you remember what has happened to both my Ning site and this site (which is a Ning site) and remember that my Blogspot site is free and Blogspot's owner (Google) has promised to keep it that way.
