Newporter 40 Together

a beautiful boat should sail forever.

I built this with a solid walnut face frame with maple doors and it is strongly fastened to the overhead and sides. I have stainless slam latches that will keep the doors secure that I still need to install. There is also an LED under cabinet light installed.

Will do!

The cockpit bench rebuild was a little tricky - there are just no easy angles out there. I'll get some more pictures of it up shortly!

Hey Eddie,

This was an easy project building the new galley cabinet, the project I'm tackling now is building new cockpit benches, not so easy.  I was trying today to ask you for some updated photos showing the cockpit benches you were building but the website wouldn't let me ask you any questions unless I had you listed as a friend?! Anyway I requested you add me as a friend so that I could ask you some questions on your cockpit rebuild, what is this Facebook? I finally got most of the materials I need, I purchased 2 sheets of 3/4" marine grade plywood at over $90/sheet, ouch! and I plan on using some teak I've had forever for the corners, I want to have all the corners with a radius so I plan to mill the teak to accept the plywood and radius the corners with my 1/2" radius router bit, I would like a larger radius but I think this will do. I hate having any 90 degree corners anywhere on a boat, especially the cockpit. I like the bomar hatches you have, but I prefer something that locks and I really want them all keyed alike so it's likely to be an expensive project. I plan on the starboard cockpit to be an L-shape going along the side and the front of the cockpit where I have 40" I can go on the width, which leaves about 1 1/2" of room between the mizzen mast and the bench. If you get a chance please post some photos of your new cockpit benches.

Wonderful!

I'm embarking on a similar project very soon - replacing the small cabinet in the corner with a full-width (or nearly so) cabinet like yours. Seeing all the space in yours gives me renewed enthusiasm for my own!

THE ROSTER

Muf, our Keeper of the Roster, has updated it.  But he still needs information on boats out there that he doesn't have, like new owners, old owners, where any of the boats are.  We don't post the roster on the web site, it is only sent to owners.  Please send him anything you might have, or call him at:

Captain Clyde's Newporter  sites:

The Ning site has been given a reprieve.   I have  transferred my Ning site to the blogspot site and will leave it there. I am keeping my Ning site open as a home for my photos and drawings.

Many of my photos there do not relate to Newporters, but a search through my collection may prove useful for your studies.

My drawings are not accurate in many respects as a result of the PAINT program used to draw them, There is no accurate scale and at best they are only useful to indicate some specific detail.  Some are inaccurate because of my poor memory.  Use them to help you think, not as a detailed presentation of the subject matter.

If any of you want to start a web site I suggest you remember what has happened to both my Ning site and this site (which is a Ning site) and remember that my Blogspot site is free and Blogspot's owner (Google) has promised to keep it that way.
