a beautiful boat should sail forever.

Spent the weekend demolishing and building. Cockpit remodel is underway.

After some changes in schedule a couple weeks ago when hatches I ordered were damaged in shipping, I decided this weekend that I needed to get my tablesaw and compound miter saw OFF the boat. The original plan was to do the stove mount, then the cockpit - both projects for which I wanted a couple of my larger tools at the boat. Then when my hatches were damaged in shipping, I shifted gears since I have enough projects going that there were certainly other things to focus on.

But So Nice is in "fancy" Marina Del Rey - and while I haven't been fussed at yet about it, it seems certain that somebody's going to complain soon about the workshop set up in the cockpit of my boat and tell me I need to go to a boatyard if I'm going to be spoiling the view.

Since my shipping insurance on the old hatches cleared last week, I hit up Home Depot and West Marine for supplies and got to work, trusting that my new hatches which are arriving this week will be in better condition. (I ordered from a different supplier and a different, hopefully sturdier brand).

I should be able to finish much of the carpentry this week and be ready to glass the whole project next weekend and drop in the hatches.

I'm using BottomSiders as my vendor for the new cushions - they do great OEM-looking cushions and these will be custom-fit to the existing and remodeled cockpit areas.

THE ROSTER

Muf, our Keeper of the Roster, has updated it.  But he still needs information on boats out there that he doesn't have, like new owners, old owners, where any of the boats are.  We don't post the roster on the web site, it is only sent to owners.  Please send him anything you might have, or call him at:

Captain Clyde's Newporter  sites:

newporters.blogspot.com

and

newporter.ning.com

The Ning site has been given a reprieve.   I have  transferred my Ning site to the blogspot site and will leave it there. I am keeping my Ning site open as a home for my photos and drawings.

Many of my photos there do not relate to Newporters, but a search through my collection may prove useful for your studies.

My drawings are not accurate in many respects as a result of the PAINT program used to draw them, There is no accurate scale and at best they are only useful to indicate some specific detail.  Some are inaccurate because of my poor memory.  Use them to help you think, not as a detailed presentation of the subject matter.

If any of you want to start a web site I suggest you remember what has happened to both my Ning site and this site (which is a Ning site) and remember that my Blogspot site is free and Blogspot's owner (Google) has promised to keep it that way.

Put 'Newporter' on Subject Line.  Email is the best way to contact me.  I do not regularly look at this site or its messaging system.  Email will get to me post-haste.
