a beautiful boat should sail forever.

A quick story from the owner about MIRACLE"s overhaul

A quick story by the owner about MIRACLE's overhaul... This is the short version of the overhaul because the long version would cover many pages. Basically, she was abandoned in a Boatyard for about two years and left uncovered after being towed in with a seized engine. After hauling it to a friend’s house, we spent about 2 and one half years rebuilding her which included cropping out any and all bad wood and replacing with new ¾ inch marine plywood, removing all fiberglass and replacing with all new rove/mat and West System epoxy and then a layer of new 10 oz glass on top. She was then painted by a professional painter with new Awlgrip. The entire inside was stripped to the bare wood and repainted and or varnished (5-7 coats).

The old engine and transmission was removed and replaced with a new Volvo 2003 T turbo diesel and transmission along with new shaft log and seals. New Racor fuel filters. All old wiring was completely stripped out and replaced with new marine grade wiring by Coastal Marine Electronics out of East Boothbay. This included a new panel for both AC & DC as well as new radios and Radar. Interior has new cushions of Ultrasuade material and an additional 4inches of foam. All plumbing was removed and replaced to service both the forward lavatory, outside shower and the galley sink with hot and cold water. New water heater runs off engine heat exchanger. The forward head is direct discharge and the main cabin head has an Electrasan unit. The wood/coal fireplace in the main cabin works well and has a set of miniature fireplace tools. Galley stove is a new Luke propane with three top burners and two burner oven.

The two masts were taken apart and refastened with West System epoxy, no screws or bolts to weaken the Sitka Spruce masts.

This is the short version. Basically, the boat has been rebuilt from the keel up. At one point, I had a crew of four working on her for six months steady plus myself and others.

THE ROSTER

Muf, our Keeper of the Roster, has updated it.  But he still needs information on boats out there that he doesn't have, like new owners, old owners, where any of the boats are.  We don't post the roster on the web site, it is only sent to owners.  Please send him anything you might have, or call him at:

Captain Clyde's Newporter  sites:

newporters.blogspot.com

and

newporter.ning.com

The Ning site has been given a reprieve.   I have  transferred my Ning site to the blogspot site and will leave it there. I am keeping my Ning site open as a home for my photos and drawings.

Many of my photos there do not relate to Newporters, but a search through my collection may prove useful for your studies.

My drawings are not accurate in many respects as a result of the PAINT program used to draw them, There is no accurate scale and at best they are only useful to indicate some specific detail.  Some are inaccurate because of my poor memory.  Use them to help you think, not as a detailed presentation of the subject matter.

If any of you want to start a web site I suggest you remember what has happened to both my Ning site and this site (which is a Ning site) and remember that my Blogspot site is free and Blogspot's owner (Google) has promised to keep it that way.

Put 'Newporter' on Subject Line.  Email is the best way to contact me.  I do not regularly look at this site or its messaging system.  Email will get to me post-haste.
