a beautiful boat should sail forever.

And you guys all thought I had given up! Had to do this one alone - pretty risky, but it went well.
There are two kinds of screws - temporary and permanent. The permanent ones are stainless (304) right above the chine and right below the deck (the two places that the first layer of 3/8 damn well better hold - The next layer will will be the main screw layer, with screws going through both sheets.). The others are just home depot screws with washers to enlarge their clamping power - they will be removed and filled with epoxy before the second layer.
The 3" scarfs require significant clamping to ensure reasonable continuity from sheet to sheet. I have found that I like the scarf to be right before a frame. That way the next sheet is the dominant force and bends the previous sheet appropriately. All surfaces are sanded with 24 grit and then well slathered with epoxy followed by thickened epoxy. It seems to take about a third of a gallon for the initial sheet.
One trick for solo, or even with friends (really wishing I had some) is a short 2x4 "L" screwed on the top of 2x4's used for clamps, and even the plywood itself. Then everything an be hung in place and let go while clamps are adjusted. There is a lot of layout before the actual glue up so that you won't waste epoxy cure time. Also, I WOULD NOT USE A "DRIVER" OR DRILL THAT HAMMERS WITH STAINLESS BECAUSE, EVEN THOUGH THE SCREW MAY GO ALL THE WAY IN WITHOUT STRIPPING, STRESS RISERS IN THE HEAD MIGHT POP LATER. Considering that the frames are oak, some of it VERY WELL SEASONED, predrilling is an absolute must.

THE ROSTER

Muf, our Keeper of the Roster, has updated it.  But he still needs information on boats out there that he doesn't have, like new owners, old owners, where any of the boats are.  We don't post the roster on the web site, it is only sent to owners.  Please send him anything you might have, or call him at:

Captain Clyde's Newporter  sites:

newporters.blogspot.com

and

newporter.ning.com

The Ning site has been given a reprieve.   I have  transferred my Ning site to the blogspot site and will leave it there. I am keeping my Ning site open as a home for my photos and drawings.

Many of my photos there do not relate to Newporters, but a search through my collection may prove useful for your studies.

My drawings are not accurate in many respects as a result of the PAINT program used to draw them, There is no accurate scale and at best they are only useful to indicate some specific detail.  Some are inaccurate because of my poor memory.  Use them to help you think, not as a detailed presentation of the subject matter.

If any of you want to start a web site I suggest you remember what has happened to both my Ning site and this site (which is a Ning site) and remember that my Blogspot site is free and Blogspot's owner (Google) has promised to keep it that way.

Put 'Newporter' on Subject Line.  Email is the best way to contact me.  I do not regularly look at this site or its messaging system.  Email will get to me post-haste.
