I took a tour through your photos; thanks for the good pictures with high definition.  That allowed me to study the picture “Ahoy,” one of your early entries.  One thing caught my eye and I put my magnifying glass on it.  The attention getter is the way your life lines are lashed to the lower shrouds.  Two things to think about if you can ever get to the piddling things.  As the rigger I lashed them to the upper shroud.  Yours may have started life that way.  This cuts the lashing time in half (two instead of four) and with a sail thimble lashed to the shroud and the lifeline passing through it the shrouds could move fore and aft as needed without pulling on the lifelines.  It also allows for taking the lifeline off for whatever reason without having to do the lashing again.  Your lashing looked like they need to be redone right now.  One thing that hastens the death of the lashings is that people going fore and aft in that area, especially in a seaway (in a seaway mans rough weather around my waters) have a strong tendency to grab the lower shrouds (the one closest to them) to maintain their balance.  That will tug the shrouds one way or another, wearing out the marlin.  This is somewhat of a safety item, too.

Look on my page (get there by clicking on my face or my name) and click on Rigging Drawings.  Now click on the third drawing down in the left column and when it comes up open it full size and click on the lower right corner.  That shows the thimble lashed to the upper shroud.  If you want instructions on how to lash that on let me know and I’ll draw up a new Rigging Drawing on how to do it.

I'll have to check them out to see what you mean - but I'm sure this is something I'll be attacking soon.

My lifelines in general need to be replaced - there is years of wear on them, with areas of the cover worn away in places. More than any other part of the boat around deck level, they show some age.

I'd love some guidance on how they should be lashed on, if you feel like drafting up a new illustration!

The Ning site has been given a reprieve.   I have  transferred my Ning site to the blogspot site and will leave it there. I am keeping my Ning site open as a home for my photos and drawings.

Many of my photos there do not relate to Newporters, but a search through my collection may prove useful for your studies.

My drawings are not accurate in many respects as a result of the PAINT program used to draw them, There is no accurate scale and at best they are only useful to indicate some specific detail.  Some are inaccurate because of my poor memory.  Use them to help you think, not as a detailed presentation of the subject matter.

If any of you want to start a web site I suggest you remember what has happened to both my Ning site and this site (which is a Ning site) and remember that my Blogspot site is free and Blogspot's owner (Google) has promised to keep it that way.
