Newporter 40 Together

a beautiful boat should sail forever.

My Newporter currently is missing the cockpit benches and I am thinking of making the starboard bench into an L-shaped bench. I measured and I have 40" from the cockpit coaming to 2" short of the mizzen mast and then I can go aft along the cockpit coaming aprox. 60" which I think would work. The port side bench is going to have to be aprox. 16" wide by 60" long, 16" is all the space I have between the coaming and the door. It's just a thought at this point but I need to figure out what I am going to do soon as that is one of my many upcoming projects.

Greg,

Sounds like a good idea.  That part of the bench on the starboard side that will be against the house would make a good place to stand and look forward.  Some may find it a favorite spot.  For people shorter than I am it is a problem to see ahead from the cockpit and that bench would help alleviate that.  As a little background, if you don’t know it, the original seat box was made as a door to the propane tank storage.  The box had a wood cleat screwed to the after bulkhead of the dog house to hook the forward end of the box and a bolt hole in the tab (an extension of the back of the box)  on the after end of the box through which a bolt passed to secure the seat in place.  Check to see where your propane is stored and keep it easy to remove the tank for refilling.  I expect you may already have that figured, but others may not think about it.

Enjoy your work.  It sounds like you are.

Peace,    Capt Clyde

THE ROSTER

Muf, our Keeper of the Roster, has updated it.  But he still needs information on boats out there that he doesn't have, like new owners, old owners, where any of the boats are.  We don't post the roster on the web site, it is only sent to owners.  Please send him anything you might have, or call him at:

Captain Clyde's Newporter  sites:

newporters.blogspot.com

and

newporter.ning.com

The Ning site has been given a reprieve.   I have  transferred my Ning site to the blogspot site and will leave it there. I am keeping my Ning site open as a home for my photos and drawings.

Many of my photos there do not relate to Newporters, but a search through my collection may prove useful for your studies.

My drawings are not accurate in many respects as a result of the PAINT program used to draw them, There is no accurate scale and at best they are only useful to indicate some specific detail.  Some are inaccurate because of my poor memory.  Use them to help you think, not as a detailed presentation of the subject matter.

If any of you want to start a web site I suggest you remember what has happened to both my Ning site and this site (which is a Ning site) and remember that my Blogspot site is free and Blogspot's owner (Google) has promised to keep it that way.
