The Masts are down! Napa Valley Marina - Napa California.  I made it up the Napa river without running aground riding a 5 knot flood tide.  The masts, booms, and bowsprit are now sitting in the yard.  Removing them was easy enough since they had a manbasket to remove the triadic stay.  It is a simple matter of removing all the turnbuckles and plucking them from the boat with a crane.

From what I can see the main mast front board has a seem where it has begun to separate all…

Number 24 - mast rebuild.

Mast rebuild.  It is time, alas, to do the masts.  They are splitting apart at the seams.  To fiberglass, or not to fiberglass, that is the question.  I hadn't been on the site for too long and realized I never posted regarding the outcome of my last endeavor at the boat yard.  Hull painted and a bit of rot in the toerail fixed.  Ran out of time and didn't do the sticks or bowsprit.  Now it is a year later and they are coming unglued at the seams.  No chance of sailing.  I blame it all on the… Continue

Number 24 is on the Hard

I hauled out in Napa Valley Marina after an epic sail from Half Moon Bay / Pillar Point through the gate and up the river. On the agenda:

Both Sticks come down - check for rot, rewire, and paint.

Bowsprit and hardware get resuscitated

Pilothouse rebuild!

Paint - lots of paint.

The hull seems to be in great shape. Just needs sand and paint. The pilothouse is really in need of a redux. And the 54 year old windows are starting to frost up as the two panes of… Continue

THE ROSTER

Muf, our Keeper of the Roster, has updated it.  But he still needs information on boats out there that he doesn't have, like new owners, old owners, where any of the boats are.  We don't post the roster on the web site, it is only sent to owners.  Please send him anything you might have, or call him at:

Captain Clyde's Newporter  sites:

newporters.blogspot.com

and

newporter.ning.com

The Ning site has been given a reprieve.   I have  transferred my Ning site to the blogspot site and will leave it there. I am keeping my Ning site open as a home for my photos and drawings.

Many of my photos there do not relate to Newporters, but a search through my collection may prove useful for your studies.

My drawings are not accurate in many respects as a result of the PAINT program used to draw them, There is no accurate scale and at best they are only useful to indicate some specific detail.  Some are inaccurate because of my poor memory.  Use them to help you think, not as a detailed presentation of the subject matter.

If any of you want to start a web site I suggest you remember what has happened to both my Ning site and this site (which is a Ning site) and remember that my Blogspot site is free and Blogspot's owner (Google) has promised to keep it that way.

Put 'Newporter' on Subject Line.  Email is the best way to contact me.  I do not regularly look at this site or its messaging system.  Email will get to me post-haste.
