This is George Henderson, owner of "Faith," Hull #69 located in the Boston area. Just letting the community know that she is on the market since I now live in CO. Greetings Western Way,

It is good to have you with us.  We all have an interest, yea, and even a love for the Newporter.  As time goes by, and it has gone a long way already, we are now seeing more Newporters to study and love.  I have never owned one, but I have sailed an unknown number of them.  "Back in the day" (as Bob has called my time with Newporters) I knew only one Newporter (for they were all built to a singular design and built with patterns, and jigs and only differed in little details, like colors and equipment choices), all of which was what my old friend Ack (designer and first builder of this fine yacht) thought a Newporter should be.  I helped build many (30 or more) of them and sailed a majority of the ones I worked on.  My second best love in the building of these the doing all the rigging, and this led to trial sailings that that let to deliveries up and down the coast.  My first love was sailing them to demonstrate them, the deliver them, and sometimes just to go sailing for a day.  I got so used to them that I could almost run stem to stern and back again blindfolded, knowing where to put each foot and what to grab with each hand.  This was easy when all the boats where basically the same.  You should, or will, get to know yours the same way.  It could help you if every time you go on board you walk and almost run (walk fast) all around her until you also know where to put your hands and feet so that it is natural and easy.  And now, with the rebuilding of so many in recent years there is an abundance of different, very different is some cases, Newporters out there that old timers like me must look at each as a new and different design.  Lot's more fun, I would say!

One other recommendation I have that should be real fun (and any time you are on your computer you can do it) is to study this web site, and others that are about the Newporter) and read all the different experiences that the other owners have had.  This will build your knowledge of the vessel and give you insight into the handling and the maintenance and many other aspects of the boat and show what a lot of owners are doing and have done to keep the old girls alive and well, and should I say it?  Different, and each a new model.
