Just a note about sliding the genoa side to side between the head stay and the forestay. Click here to go to a new (temporary) page on my site about how it was handled on the boats we built. Enjoy.

Good Stuff! I will be glad when I get my boat rigged so I can really appreciate what is going on. Really enjoyed the "click to" article on your web site.
Looking at that shot, I'm surprised anyone picked out that detail - but yes, I do in fact have the "pelican"! I'd been fascinated by that piece, having never seen it before. Interesting to know it was a Newporter blacksmith fabrication.
From what you're saying on that page, it sounds like when tacking with the genoa, it's best to detach the forestays'l and stow the whole arrangement. I'm trying to remember if there's a padeye to reattach to in the right place - but I suspect there is. I have a couple in odd places that I'm gradually figuring out what they're meant for.
I just went through all the pictures on this site and found only one that appears to have the pelican hook on the forestay that allows it to be tucked out of the way of the genoa. The title of the picture is "Cap'n Eddie" and it shows the lower end of the forestay with a large stainless hook that is hooked into the "staple" welded to the angle iron center section of the anchor roller mount (standard forestay attach point). Compare what you can see of the hook (look at the full sized picture) with the drawing of it linked in my "Slippery Genoa" post. Note that Eddie's is hooked from outboard to inboard and my drawing shows it to be hooked from inboard to outboard, which is the way I rigged the boats. I found it easier to hook up that way. Peace, Clyde

THE ROSTER
Muf, our Keeper of the Roster, has updated it. But he still needs information on boats out there that he doesn't have, like new owners, old owners, where any of the boats are. We don't post the roster on the web site, it is only sent to owners. Please send him anything you might have, or call him at:

Captain Clyde's Newporter sites:
and
The Ning site has been given a reprieve. I have transferred my Ning site to the blogspot site and will leave it there. I am keeping my Ning site open as a home for my photos and drawings.
Many of my photos there do not relate to Newporters, but a search through my collection may prove useful for your studies.
My drawings are not accurate in many respects as a result of the PAINT program used to draw them, There is no accurate scale and at best they are only useful to indicate some specific detail. Some are inaccurate because of my poor memory. Use them to help you think, not as a detailed presentation of the subject matter.
If any of you want to start a web site I suggest you remember what has happened to both my Ning site and this site (which is a Ning site) and remember that my Blogspot site is free and Blogspot's owner (Google) has promised to keep it that way.
Clyde's email:
Put 'Newporter' on Subject Line. Email is the best way to contact me. I do not regularly look at this site or its messaging system. Email will get to me post-haste.
