Somewhere, in a field along the banks of the Tennessee River, I am attempting to resurrect the masts from the decommissioned Le Bateau Sans Souci, AKA the "Boat with No Worries". I bought these off of Dennis Gaffney a few years ago, up in the Chesapeake Bay. May the spirit of Le Batteau Sans Souci live on!
The vertical landscaping timbers, sunk in concrete, will be my "mast horses", once the horizontal pieces are added. All will be leveled with a laser to ensure a flat, level surface for mast rebuilding. After, or if, I ever finish this boat, I SWEAR I WILL NEVER BE A "WHATEVER IT TAKES" KIND OF GUY AGAIN!

Dennis, and all you other Newporter-ers whose eyes see them wherever they are:
I was looking over some designs by George Beuhler and ran across his Hagar model, a double ended sloop. Included on his site was this picture of a Hagar that I downloaded for my collection and have had for some time. The other day I was looking at it and, lo and behold, in the background I saw old Newporter # 9, the SERENUSE.
I always thought I could see a Newporter anywhere, but I sure missed that one. Looking it up in the Roster and wandering around in it after I found the Serenuse I noted the date of build and found that in 1956 Ack's yard built at least 16 Newporters in one year, that’s 3-1/4 weeks a boat. Since # 17 was the last recorded build date until 1959 and # 1 was built in 1955 I do not know how many were actually built in 1956. We built four at a time on our assembly line and it took six weeks to build, from start to finish, a single boat. Add all this to your collection of useless bits of information.
Aw, come on Bob. You know you'll be one of those again. Because you are you and that's you. Old Willie, as I call your boat "Wilson," would not be sitting on the verge of being young again if it wasn't for you and your determination to do it once, do it right, and keep on doing. He will be up and at 'em soon and you know it. (Boy, do I dislike calling a boat "he" but his owner doesn't like calling a boat "her." O well!) Don't forget that because of your boat we have this great site to come to and enjoy, so KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

THE ROSTER
Muf, our Keeper of the Roster, has updated it. But he still needs information on boats out there that he doesn't have, like new owners, old owners, where any of the boats are. We don't post the roster on the web site, it is only sent to owners. Please send him anything you might have, or call him at:

Captain Clyde's Newporter sites:
and
The Ning site has been given a reprieve. I have transferred my Ning site to the blogspot site and will leave it there. I am keeping my Ning site open as a home for my photos and drawings.
Many of my photos there do not relate to Newporters, but a search through my collection may prove useful for your studies.
My drawings are not accurate in many respects as a result of the PAINT program used to draw them, There is no accurate scale and at best they are only useful to indicate some specific detail. Some are inaccurate because of my poor memory. Use them to help you think, not as a detailed presentation of the subject matter.
If any of you want to start a web site I suggest you remember what has happened to both my Ning site and this site (which is a Ning site) and remember that my Blogspot site is free and Blogspot's owner (Google) has promised to keep it that way.
Clyde's email:
Put 'Newporter' on Subject Line. Email is the best way to contact me. I do not regularly look at this site or its messaging system. Email will get to me post-haste.
