Getting ready to test my rebuilt engine, so I am installing the exterior components like starter, fuel pump, and my newly acquired RAW WATER PUMP. My original raw water pump and drive, which runs off the flywheel, had been discarded, and a belt driven pump had been jury rigged (like everything else on the boat). When one of our members replaced his old Ford/Osco 172 D I bought the old mechanical drive, Shown sitting on top of a brand new JABSCO 3270-001 FLANGED PUMP for $318 from Marine Pump Direct over the internet - so I am back to original gear! It was a good thing because I have 6 spare impellers for that pump. Parts seem to be readily available once you figure out what pump you need - i.e., the bronze cast body of the pump has identity 3273 - which through me off because I had no cover plate (the correct pump number is 3270-001.
Another find was this old secondary filter off a tractor engine laying in a field in Alabama - man is it a quality piece of work. There are at least two manufacturers still making the filter element - either one will work - but I bought a case of the one on the valve cover so I would not have to worry. If you rotate the pump and drive 90 degrees you can see how it bolts to the flywheel bellhousing/engine block (the gear above).
The last current project is making a new heavy duty control cable unit that will allow me to control the throttle from either helm station. I will do an album on each of these projects with more reference material, but for now just got tired of the same old pictures -POST MY FRIENDS - POST!!!!!

THE ROSTER
Muf, our Keeper of the Roster, has updated it. But he still needs information on boats out there that he doesn't have, like new owners, old owners, where any of the boats are. We don't post the roster on the web site, it is only sent to owners. Please send him anything you might have, or call him at:

Captain Clyde's Newporter sites:
and
The Ning site has been given a reprieve. I have transferred my Ning site to the blogspot site and will leave it there. I am keeping my Ning site open as a home for my photos and drawings.
Many of my photos there do not relate to Newporters, but a search through my collection may prove useful for your studies.
My drawings are not accurate in many respects as a result of the PAINT program used to draw them, There is no accurate scale and at best they are only useful to indicate some specific detail. Some are inaccurate because of my poor memory. Use them to help you think, not as a detailed presentation of the subject matter.
If any of you want to start a web site I suggest you remember what has happened to both my Ning site and this site (which is a Ning site) and remember that my Blogspot site is free and Blogspot's owner (Google) has promised to keep it that way.
Clyde's email:
Put 'Newporter' on Subject Line. Email is the best way to contact me. I do not regularly look at this site or its messaging system. Email will get to me post-haste.
