ETIOLE, HULL 10
My Old, very old papers on ETOILE Hull 10 state:
"MASTS: Hollow spruce of the rectangular type with rounded corners, Fiberglassed
"BOOMS: round solid Spruce or Fir, with bronze boom bails for sheets and bronze gooseneck fittings"
The papers are fragile and yellow with age. One page shows a measurement of 37' 8". but it looks to me as if that's the size of the main luff.
Next time I'm at the marina I'll look for more papers and get back to you.
By-the-way, the beautiful ETOILE is for sale.See her on: www.yachtworld.com/boatcityyachts, then click on 40' Newporter.
We lived aboard almost 20 years and did long distance cruising for four years - Up to San Francisco and the Sacramento Delta, offshore islands of SoCal to Mexico, Cabo, LaPaz, crossed to the mainland and down and around to Puerto Angel. Crossed Tejuanepec to El Salvador, Costa Rica to Panama. All with just the three of us [and son Greg was only ten when we began the trip].
Fair winds and wonderful sailing,
Marion Seaman

HULL 112 - Ted Daniels ex wife bought over ebay - here is correspondance from him - ted later acquired Justine's #124 MOONFLEET
From Ted Daniels to bob mitchell
Sent May 21
Bob:
My dear ex Wife bought it on eBay. The seller danced around when we wanted to go see it and finally I had to track it down through Google maps and spotted it on the satellite stuff. Eventually we went there. It was a total wrexk with half the gunwale on the stbd side pulled out and a hole through the deck where you could put your hand.
We checked around and found the photos on the eBay site were taken years ago by another party and were not representative of current condition. The inside was trashed and she was taking on water continuously to the point the FL state declared it a derelict
So we transferred title to a local guy for free and he is towing it somewhere to work on it, if he can, because the State said they would file criminal charges against us and fine up to $30K.
We will shortly file suit against the vendor for Constructive Fraud, Mirepresentation and Breach of Contract - just figuring out which jurisdiction to file in and then hire an atty. eBay and Paypal washed their hands of it real quick and were of no help whatsoever.
We will go back down there to see if the sails are worth recovering.

NC NUMBER (Newporter Class hull and sail number, found on bronze oval plate in deckhouse, on sail, or in bow of dinghy). Cutter and sloop are used interchangeably in the roster. Ackerman used"sloop" in his records, but some owners use "cutter"—possibly there are Newporters of both types. There were three gaff-rigged ketches, NC2, 3 and 5; and four sloop/cutter rigs, Ne21, 27, 53 and 66. Three Newporters are known to be lost: NC 50, NC61 and NC123.

Update on Hull #70. I own it now! :)

THE ROSTER
Muf, our Keeper of the Roster, has updated it. But he still needs information on boats out there that he doesn't have, like new owners, old owners, where any of the boats are. We don't post the roster on the web site, it is only sent to owners. Please send him anything you might have, or call him at:

Captain Clyde's Newporter sites:
and
The Ning site has been given a reprieve. I have transferred my Ning site to the blogspot site and will leave it there. I am keeping my Ning site open as a home for my photos and drawings.
Many of my photos there do not relate to Newporters, but a search through my collection may prove useful for your studies.
My drawings are not accurate in many respects as a result of the PAINT program used to draw them, There is no accurate scale and at best they are only useful to indicate some specific detail. Some are inaccurate because of my poor memory. Use them to help you think, not as a detailed presentation of the subject matter.
If any of you want to start a web site I suggest you remember what has happened to both my Ning site and this site (which is a Ning site) and remember that my Blogspot site is free and Blogspot's owner (Google) has promised to keep it that way.
Clyde's email:
Put 'Newporter' on Subject Line. Email is the best way to contact me. I do not regularly look at this site or its messaging system. Email will get to me post-haste.
