Newporter 40 Together

a beautiful boat should sail forever.

Hello fellow newporters! I have just become the proud owner of "Aquila". It is a 1955 Newporter hull #1. Sadly the previous owner passed away of cancer during mid rebuild. He left me with a great hull and rigging to work with. I have the interior to rebuild and I am looking forward to the journey! I'm glad to be part of this community and look forward to corresponding with you all.

Hello,

My name is Morgan and my father owned Hull #1 back in the mid 80s. She was quite the boat under the name Aquila. If you by chance fancy on selling her I would be an interested party.

Sad, but congrats for taking over hull #1. I was wondering what happened to her. I have #2 which I was told was Ack's boat he used to test and make improvements. Regards, Scott.

Hey, Eric!  Welcome to the site.  We have hull no. 33 and we know what you're in for!  Ours is 1956, so we will no doubt have some stories to share.  We've learned from this site that there are some differences in the construction in the West Coast and East Coast Newporters, so we'll give you any information we can from our perspective.  Clyde and Bob will be your guiding lights, but we're available for insights on the interior refit:  we live aboard and have had lots of time to appreciate what works about the original interior design.  Here's to your success!

What a historic boat to have!  It could be considered the "proof of concept" model.  But that would be so if there were plans to put them in production.  But Ack had no such plans.  So, it is what it is, the boat Ack designed and was building for himself, but in mid-construction someone bugged him to sell it to him.  Thus began a long line of Newporters.  Rejoice in what you have.  You are now doing what Ack wanted to do: "building" (re-building) a boat for youself.  We are glad to have you aboard--don't be bashful about coming here to ask questions or to post blogs of your progress.

WOW! That is just so incredible. We started this site in 2009, but for some reason I always felt that there were missing pieces. To have communication with HULL #1 and her new owner is a major historical completion - kind of like we just started where we could instead of the beginning. NOW we have the beginning!!!!!!! Really glad you are here.

There is a lot of stuff on the site. If you need pics or info on boat or site just let me know!!!

THE ROSTER

Muf, our Keeper of the Roster, has updated it.  But he still needs information on boats out there that he doesn't have, like new owners, old owners, where any of the boats are.  We don't post the roster on the web site, it is only sent to owners.  Please send him anything you might have, or call him at:

Captain Clyde's Newporter  sites:

newporters.blogspot.com

and

newporter.ning.com

The Ning site has been given a reprieve.   I have  transferred my Ning site to the blogspot site and will leave it there. I am keeping my Ning site open as a home for my photos and drawings.

Many of my photos there do not relate to Newporters, but a search through my collection may prove useful for your studies.

My drawings are not accurate in many respects as a result of the PAINT program used to draw them, There is no accurate scale and at best they are only useful to indicate some specific detail.  Some are inaccurate because of my poor memory.  Use them to help you think, not as a detailed presentation of the subject matter.

If any of you want to start a web site I suggest you remember what has happened to both my Ning site and this site (which is a Ning site) and remember that my Blogspot site is free and Blogspot's owner (Google) has promised to keep it that way.
