How did you get interested in newporters? Tell me a little about yourself.: A late friend of mine, Henning Rasmussen, owned Hull 111 ("Gracious") who I met in 1980 at Columbia Yacht Club in Chicago. I had the good fortune to cruise Lake Michigan with him and his spouse Patricia for several years during the summers, and worked on Gracious when she was on the hard in winter (mechanical; wood refinishing; the usual stuff). In 1985 I helped them transit the Intercoastal from Annapolis to Charleston when they were moving her to Ft. Myers. We later cruised the Gulf north to Boca Grande and south to Key West. I remain a member of Columbia and spent a good bit of time racing (IOR 1; One-Ton; T-10) and generally messing around with boats as well as the club's Race Committee.
