Your remark "soft spot inside hull on zinc plate. zinc repaired. can we fortifie from inside?" concerns me. I know of no zinc plate so positioned on the Newporters we built that had access from the inside. The only zinc I remember was a zinc collar on the propeller shaft between the propeller and the stern bearing. There was also a Dynaplate grounding unit on the port side, low on the keel so as the mounting fasteners were screwed into the lead ballast. Neither of these are accessable from the inside.
The big problem I have run across on these boats is that a lot of them have had several owners any of whom has made modifications that are of his own making. I do not argue against this because an owner should be able to do to his boat what he wants. The "problem" multiplies when subsequent owners buy a boat and find these modification they tend to believe the boat was designed and built that way.
To make good answer to your question we need to know where this zinc plate is in relation to what is just inside of it. Any answer should add the fact that any fortification on the inside can only be a stop-gap and not a repair. Any place a zinc is located has to be below the waterline and any true repair will require removing any soft wood and replacing it with good wood. That can not be done while the boat is in the water. But if a soft are is accessable from the inside can be doubled up so as to put off for a while the coming leak.
I wondering where that zinc is and what is it protecting?
This is George Henderson, owner of "Faith," Hull #69 located in the Boston area. Just letting the community know that she is on the market since I now live in CO. She is priced to sell. Makes me sad but I'd like to see her legacy continue. If you know of a potential buyer I can be reached at georgehenderson.usa@gmail.com / 857-221-1581. She is in great condition and has been lovingly restored. There are pics on my members' page and a link to a Google Drive folder is below, where you will find pics and a survey.

John! Welcome!
I went over and looked at Kaomi - besides some cosmetics, she looked like a great boat: glad she found a new home so quickly!
