Hey Bo, I just purchased the Red Witch, she's now in Morro bay and looking pretty rough.I have a lot of work ahead of me but I'm sure it will be worth it in the end.
Hey Bo, Next time you are in Morro bay, please come by and see the boat I could use some direction on what I need to get started on first. Well the very first thing I HAVE to do and pronto is to shore up the collapsing main mast. Then maybe install the bilge pump, I couldn't believe it didn't have a functioning pump, but praise God the bilges are dry. Also thanks for adding me as a friend.
Bo, Sorry to not call you yet, in all honesty I'm a bit overwhelmed and haven't done anything more than just shore up the main mast, I sandwiched 8 ft 2x6's up both sides and clamped it all together with 5/8" allthread bolts with large washers and tightened the bejeebers out of it which straightened out the kink in the mast and is allowing me to sleep nights, I don't have to wake up fretting anytime I hear a gust of wind wondering if it is going all come down and kill somebody. At this point I am just getting the salon and stateroom cleaned up and painted, installing new upholstery, and just getting it so that we have an area on board that is not a shambles, we are not planning on living aboard (that would require a divorce) but it is just nice to have somewhere to relax in the midst of the never ending projects that is finished and gives me a sense of what hopefully the whole boat will look like someday. When I bought it, it was essentially gutted, all the cabinet doors were missing, I should be getting the replacements shipped to me in the next few days, thankfully the head and stateroom doors were there, but I still have to come up with a replacement for the hanging locker door. Anyway I had it surveyed and other than dry rot in the mast and under both stateroom windows (which I am in the midst of treating under the ports with "Git Rot" (great product) the boat was pronounced structurally sound so for what I payed for it I expected there to be some major $$ and time investment. The Lehman seems to run well, although the heat exchanger has rusted through so it is essentially cooling with raw water, it also still had the Raymarine C80 radar/gps combo and that still works I tested it. I guess the boat sat on a mooring for years without any attention and it didn't fair well from lack of attention. But I have the desire and much of the knowledge needed to put things back to sound condition. The mast is not at the top of my list right now, but what would you do? Repair, replace with wood, or aluminum or ??

I'm trying to find out if there has been any major engine work done that you know of? Keel work, what might have happened to the starboard chine? Places the boat has cruised, etc. I know very little about the history of the boat, and I can't locate your phone number.
It was nice to finally get to talk with you, thanks again for all the info on Red Witch. I hope we can get together one of these times you are down our way, I'd love to show you the boat and see some of the photos you were telling me about. In the meantime if you come across the name of the actress that once owned the boat I would love to know who it was, my wife and son are also anxious to know.
