hey Jim - welcome - do you have a Newporter 40 specific interest, or just sailboats in general. As you can see from the site entries right now, I am basically using the site as my daily log for rebuilding a Newporter from almost the ground (the deadwood) up. bob
Welcome. I am on my annual migration to somewhere to other then where I am at. I spent the last year in Santa Barbara and what a winter it was (lost 17 boats on the beach - all total losses). Now I'm headed North back to the Bay Area and then ultimately up the Sacramento River delta to dry out a bit in the hot goodness.
The sail North has been bad. Horrible in fact. Nothing but Gale Warnings and Small Craft Advisory the entire way. I have clawed my way up around Conception and Arguello to Avila where I spent 3 weeks and then a week in Morro Bay. I'm currently lying in San Simeon cove and teh big South Swells from Hurricane Celia are reaching in here - fortunately they are long d low. The fog is thick. I'm getting ready to head out into the fog to Monterrey. The boat is so slow going into the wind with the big swells. It would be perfect for a trip to Hawaii, but alas, going North against the California Coast is rough if the seas are high. Going downhill is easy though.
Well, that's the update for now. These boats are great! I love it all the more and look forward to working on it when I get into the sunny dry weather.
